Go to Settings, then open Battery and turn on low power mode. It will also stop mail fetching, automatic downloads, and other non-critical tasks.
Stop background app refresh. The power consumed by apps doing self-updating in the background may amount to a lot. Go to Settings, General, Background App Refresh and entirely switch off or simply adjust the refreshing for the apps that you really want to use.
Disable push email. iPhone battery might also drain fast by the constant checking for new messages. Open Settings, Mail, Accounts, Fetch New Data, disable Push and select a schedule like hourly or the manual fetching instead.
